Whether you are a home owner building their dream forever home, or a business owner building a shopping complex or an office building, or a property manager construction a townhouse apartment complex, the one thing every structure requires is a nice, proud roof to keep out the elements.
But it shouldn’t only be practical and reliable, but also aesthetically pleasing. Often it is the thing that most stands out when looking at your house from a distance. The colour, the shape, the material – your property’s roofing doesn’t just keep your head dry and your skin from being burnt by the sun … it is a statement to the world saying, ‘I live here!’
Our roof installation contractors will get the job done for you on-time, for a competitive price. We will not skimp on the labour, we will not skimp on the materials. We will treat each and every roof as if we are building them for ourselves.
Metal Roofing Canberra
More and more, metal roofing is becoming a clear and popular choice for residential homes. It’s light, it doesn’t absorb water and is very low maintenance, and will last years longer than other types of roof.
It is also extremely durable, able to withstand strong winds, hail, rain and, as the years get hotter and hotter, metal roofs are more fire resistant than tile roofs.
We will work with all types of roofing materials, whether tile or metal, so if you are unsure of what type will suit you and your house best, call us and our roofing experts will be happy to talk to you.
Roof Repair Canberra
Maintenance is vital to ensure minor problems don’t become major problems, necessitating a restoration or a replacement.
Hail and storm damage, damage caused by fallen debris such as tree branches, minor and major leaks, missing tiles, rusty metal sheets, corrosion and rust, moisture damage … those are only some of the things that might necessitate a call for a repair.
Our roof repair Canberra contractors will inspect your roof first before performing any work. If you are unsure of whether the work you require comes under the term ‘repair’, or is more serious and extensive and may require a full ‘restoration’, call us, and we will be happy to work with you in determining the proper course of action.
Roof Restoration Canberra
‘Repairs’ are like placing band aides on your roof. Sometimes, that is enough, but sometimes, the extent of the damage is too great for a band aide to fix. That is when a restoration is required.
A restoration is a complete makeover of your roof. It is repaired completely, old roofing material is replaced with new material, and the general look of your roof can be drastically changed, if required.
A restoration is not just something you can do when your roof is in a bad state. Restorations allow you to change the roofing material, you could change it to a material that is more durable, more energy efficient, and will last longer.
Our roof restoration Canberra contractors will come to inspect your property. If you’re unsure of whether your issues lands in the ‘repair’, ‘restoration’ or ‘replacement’ bracket, they will help you come to that decision. If you have any other questions, include what type of roofing material is best for your circumstances, please give us a call.
Roof Replacement Canberra
A replacement is a more drastic option than restoration. Whereas a restoration will leave the roof structure in place, a replacement involves removing the existing roof and replacing it with a new one. This may also include the support structure.
So, when might replacement be a better option than restoration? When the damage is so drastic that it is irreparable and even a restoration is not sufficient enough to make the roof safe once more.
But that may not be the only case: it may be better to replace a metal roof than restore it, and also, if it is naturally coming to the end of its lifetime, a restoration might add a bit of life, but a replacement will add decades of life.
We don’t expect you to be roofing experts and know precisely what level of work is required. Our contractors will inspect your roof and will help you determine what the next step will be. If a roof replacement is required, we will help you determine the best roofing material. So, please call us today.
Gutter Installation Canberra
If you are building a new house, getting the gutters right is a great way of limiting later maintenance. We will work with you to help you determine which gutter material works for your property, as well as help you figure out the gutter size, shape and colour.
Whatever requirements your gutter installation needs, our gutter installation Canberra are just a phone call away.
Guttering doesn’t just include the gutters themselves, but also the downpipes and the fascia. You can trust our contractors to ensure a complete and dependable installation first time.
We so often don’t put much stock into our gutters, so long as they move water off our property and into our drains. But broken gutters can cause major issues to your property. Water that should be draining away is instead pooling at your foundations or on your roof, and neither are good circumstances.
Getting your gutter repaired can help same money on roofing repairs, repairs on your external structures, such as your walls, and foundation repairs due to water erosion.
So, call us to fix up your broken, rusted gutters before they can cause even more problems.
Gutter Replacement Canberra
Sometimes the damage to a gutter is too drastic to simply ‘band aid’ it with a repair. Sometimes it requires the entire gutter to be replaced.
Or perhaps you have decided that you want a different style of gutter, or perhaps a different material is more durable and dependable, than a gutter replacement will allow you to replace your gutters with any style, material, size or colour you desire.
Our gutter replacement Canberra contractors will first inspect your gutters to determine the extent of the damage, or, if you are replacing the gutter for cosmetic reasons, they will talk with you through the different options available and which would suit your house the best.
So, give us a call if you have a problem with your gutters. Our friendly staff is looking forward to talking with you.
When something goes wrong with your roof, it is easy to begin to panic. We see the leaks and the broken tiles and the damaged caused, and we immediately think the worst.
But it is not the right time to panic. It is the right time to act. The earlier you act, the easier it will be to limit the costs. What could have been simple repairs, may require a restoration job if ignored. What might have need just a restoration may require a complete replacement, had the issue been caught earlier. Call us as soon as you notice the problem.
Whether you make a decision to renovate your roof for your own reasons, or because those reasons were made for you, it is best to get moving quickly. Call us, at Roofing Canberra ACT today, and our friendly staff will be waiting to talk to you.
Frequently Asked Questions
Let’s answer the easiest distinction first. Installation is for when you are installing a new roof. That is, your house or business property is new, it has never had a roof before, and you are installing a new one.
Repair, Restoration and Replacement are related to roofs that already exist. The biggest, most obvious distinction between the three categories is based on the extensiveness of the job.
A repair will take care of small problems. If you’ve discovered a leak, or there’s been storm damage, or you’ve noticed that some of your tiles or shingles are damaged, you need a repair. Repairs are performed only on a limited section of the roof. If the repair is substantial enough that it effects a large portion than can be fixed by a repair, a restoration or replacement may be required. Repairs, understandably, are the cheapest option.
Restorations are far more involved than repairs. A restoration is like a complete makeover for your roof; the basic structure remains, but old roofing material is replaced with newer, better material. You might consider a restoration when the damage to your roof is too extensive for a repair, but not so extensive that the structural integrity of the roof has been compromised. Or, you might consider a restoration to change the look of your roof, to make it more energy efficient, or to just bring it up to the current codes.
The most expensive option, because it is the most drastic, is replacement. Now that you have a better idea of what a ‘restoration’ is, you can probably guess what a ‘replacement’ is, and why it might be required. During a replacement, the roof is totally removed and completely replaced. This might be required when the damage is too extensive for even a restoration, or, possibly, because the roof is reaching its end of life date and rather than repairing or restoring it, a replacement is deemed the better option.
If you are unsure of which applies to your specific case, do not worry. Before every job, our contractors will inspect your roof to determine the best course of action.
Some of the signs that your roof might require some work are obvious. If you’ve experienced a natural disaster, like a major storm, you might have noticed parts of your roof missing. Clearly, that would be a difficult sign to miss.
But there are far more subtle signs that something up there might need some tender loving care. It is far better to catch a problem while it can still be repaired, before it grows into a problem that will require a full restoration, or even worse, a full replacement.
So, here are some signs that your roof might need to be repaired, or at the very least, need to be inspected by a professional roofing technician. Some you can check from the inside, some may require you to climb a ladder. In which case, please be extremely careful, as climbing ladders and walking on roofs can be very dangerous.
1) Check your shingles. Are they dark, discoloured by dirt, or damp? This could indicate that moisture is being trapped within the shingles.
2) Are your shingles missing? Do you notice any cracked or curled shingles? Shingles that aren’t lying perfectly flat (or not there entirely) let moisture in underneath, and this can exacerbate a minor repair into a major one.
3) Still with the shingles, but this time, look at your gutters. Are there bits and pieces of shingles in the gutters, what are called ‘granules’ which look a lot like thick, black sand? If so, your shingles could be wearing out.
4) Check your roof valleys. These are where two different slopes of your roof meet, forming a ‘V’. Often, water flows down these valleys. Look for corrosion and rust, which could turn into leaks. Check the ceiling under such potential leaks, and see if it is stained by water.
5) Look for moss; this will likely grow between shingles and in places that are shaded from the sun. Moss traps water, and if the water gets under the shingles, it could work itself into the house. Then you begin to have mould issues. The moss itself isn’t necessarily the issue – it can be cleared away with a little elbow grease or chemicals – but it could be an indicator of leaking below.
6) Now for some tips that you don’t need a ladder for. Check the ceiling under your roof, whether this be an attic or the crawl space. Do you see stains? After rain, do you notice leaks? If you find these leaks early, you can get them repaired before they turn into something worse.
7) And we are still in the attic, or crawl space – Do you see outside light coming in through a crack in the ceiling. You can probably guess that this is clearly not a good thing, as water can also get through that crack, causing mould and other issues.
8) If you are able to see rafters in your attic or crawl space, are they sagging downwards? They should be remaining straight, and if that’s not the case, it might be because they have been contaminated by water coming in from outside.
9) The age of your roof. Roofs don’t last forever, even at the best of times. Usually, they last for 20 to 25 years, so if yours is coming to that age, you should probably have a professional roof inspection just to be sure there aren’t issues with your roof.
